With a substantial number of academic days lost due to teachers' agitation, the Delhi University has put off the first semester exams by over two weeks.
The semester exams will now be held between December 6 and December 14, the University said in a statement.
According to the original schedule of the academic calender, the exams for the first semester were to be held from November 20, but with the syllabus not complete, this is not be possible.
The Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) has organised a series of strikes this year to protest what it calls the unilateral imposition of the semester system by the Vice Chancellor.
The semester system was approved by VC Deepak Pental in 13 undergraduate science courses in April amid stiff opposition from the teachers' representatives in the Executive Council, who accused him of not consulting them on the issue.
With a number of academic days lost, the Delhi University Students Union had demanded that the semester exams be postponed in students' interest. The time for classes to be held for the first semester has been extended till December 3, and the classes for the second semester will now begin from January 3, 2011.
