Kolkata: Plans are on to start classes at an Rs 72-crore institute of technology in Budge Budge called Budge Budge Institue of Technology. Construction is still on at that campus which plans to start classes from July.
City-based businessman and socialist, Jagannath Gupta founded the 19-acre institute.
“We have already invested Rs 10 crore in the project and we have plan to invest Rs 62 crore more in next ten years,” said Krishna Gupta, trustee of the project fund.
The institute is situated 40 minutes from Taratala Marine Engineering College and 20 minutes from St Thomas College of Engineering and Technology, Kidderpore.
The institute will have both AICTE and non-AICTE courses. Teaching faculty for the institute have been appointed from institutions like Jadavpur University, Kharagpur IIT, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology and many others.
The institute offers facilities like separate boys’ and girls’ hostel, faculty quarter, outdoor sports’ ground, indoor sports room, gymnasium, swimming pool, E-library, Wi-fi facility, and many more.
The authorities want the campus to be accessible for students. “We have hired two buses for the institute. Two of them would ply from Budge Budge railway station and one from Esplanade crossing to the campus,” said Krishna Gupta.
Apart from Jagannath Gupta, chairman, the Governing body of the institute includes D P Jana, ex-IAS Officer, Prof R N Chakrabarty, retired professor, Jadavpur University, K L Chopra, former director, Kharagpur IIT, Prof R K Suri, former director, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Raibarely.
