The former Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court, P.R. Gokulakrishnan has called upon the young graduates not to run after power or jobs but prove their merit by using the vast opportunities that exist in the country. Delivering the 14th convocation address at Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Mahavidyalaya at Enathur, near here, Mr. Gokulakrishnan said the strong, honest and well-educated face challenges and can progress without any difficulty. Pointing out that acquisition of knowledge was not only to protect oneself but also to protect the country from the onslaught of unprincipled persons, the former Chief Justice said if the younger generation wish democracy should survive with all its glory, they must be prepared to face the onslaught of casteism, parochialism, fundamentalism and opportunism.
Participating in the function, Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi called upon the students to be true to their country.
Presenting the annual report, the vice-chancellor, V.S. Vishnu Potty said new programmes such as M.Sc. (Chemistry), B.Sc. (Physical Education) and certificate course in Security Guards Training were introduced during this year. Degrees were conferred on a total of 1041 students on the occasion. While 31 students received gold medals for securing first rank in their respective programmes, 14 secured silver medals and five received cash awards. Four candidates from departments of Computer Sciences, Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Electrical Engineering and Physics were conferred with Ph.D. degrees.
