Plans for India’s first central sports university, near Ranchi, have been submitted to the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry. Some of the suggestions included in the plan are opening Kendriya Vidyalayas near the proposed sports university to build greater linkages with schools. This would help in identifying talented students and provide them training from a young age for careers in sports. The varsity will have an academic structure that will include a combination of curricular programmes in subjects such as sports management, sports medicine, sports psychology, etc.
Canada sees huge rise in visa applications
At a time when countries like Britain and Australia are seeing an unprecedented rise in student visa applications from India, Canada is not concerned as it has seen a 100 per cent rise in applications. “Students are welcome to Canada but at the same time we have to check the authenticity of their documents,” said Scott Slessor, Consul General, Canada.
