Punjab woos IT players for upcoming IT park

Aiming to turn Punjab into one of the most attractive IT investment destinations, the state government will invite several IT players, including Infosys, Tech Mahindra, to set up their shops in the upcoming IT park at Ropar.
    
Spread over 300 acres of land, the IT Park, is going to be developed at a cost of Rs 150 crore.
    
"We have identified around 17 companies, including Infosys, Tech Mahindra for inviting them to have campus at IT park in Ropar," Punjab Infotech, which is setting up the IT park, MD Rakesh Verma told reporters here today.
    
The state government will be offering several incentives such as subsidy on capital investment, exemption from conversion charges, electricity duty and stamp duty.
    
Besides, it will also offer Floor Area Ratio of 300 per cent, which is maximum among Haryana and Chandigarh and power without any cuts.
    
Adjoining the IIT Ropar, Punjab government is in the process of setting up an IT park at Ropar at 300 acres of land. "We are looking to develop a knowledge hub here by inviting IT, Biotech, educational, centre of excellence and research institutes in this park," he said.
    
"IT park is in line with Punjab government’s vision of promoting knowledge industry by developing industry-academia-government linkages," he said.
   
When asked about how much cost an investor will have to incur to set up a venture, Verma said that the initial cost per acre is expected to be over Rs 1 crore an acre.
