Navy-Open varsity ink deal to upgrade Dock staff skills

The Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University will provide technical education and skill-upgradation training to the staff of Naval Dockyard through a variety of diploma programmes in engineering.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Navy and the university in the presence of the Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of University K Sankaranarayanan and Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command
Vice Admiral Sanjeev Bhasin at Nehru Centre here today.

Admiral Superintendent of the Naval Dockyard Rear Admiral R K Sherawat and Vice Chancellor of the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University Dr R Krishnakumar signed the papers.

The Naval Dockyard is celebrating the 275th anniversary of its foundation. It has 12,000 staff personnel, both uniformed and civilian. The agreement will benefit the staff and dock workers to upgrade their skills.

Earlier, the Governor inaugurated a Seminar on 'Life Cycle Support For Ships and Submarines' organised by Western Naval Command to mark the Naval Dock anniversary.
