The issue of a common syllabus and a uniform set of rules for all the Central universities are likely to figure prominently at a meeting of the vice-chancellors of these institutions here tomorrow.
A move to hold a common entrance test for all these universities could also be discussed at the meeting which will be chaired by HRD Minister Kapil Sibal.
The minister had last year proposed holding a common entrance test for admission to 15 newly-created Central universities, a step which could be extended to the existing 25 other Central universities.
Sources said holding a common test would immensely benefit the students who has to move from one place to another to appear for the entrance exams.
Providing more autonomy to these universities could also come up at the meeting in keeping with the HRD Ministry's aim of bringing further reforms in the country's higher education system.
Sources indicated that a common syllabus for these universities could be adopted at this meeting. However,
regional sensibilities would have to be taken into account in this process.
During a previous meeting of the VCs of these universities earlier this year, Sibal had disclosed plans to give them more autonomy in recruitment process in relation to induction of assistant professors, associate professors and professors at any time within budgetary provisions.
