Many seats for BE courses vacant in MP's private eng colleges

Nearly 30 per cent seats are vacant in undergraduate engineering courses in various private colleges in Madhya Pradesh after the final round of counseling.

Therefore, the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has permitted private colleges to fill these seats by holding College-Level-Counselling (CLC).

"As many as 23,000 (27.71 per cent) out of 83,000 seats available for BE (Bachelors in Engineering) courses in private engineering colleges in Madhya Pradesh are still vacant," officials said here today.

In the four phases of counselling including a special one conducted by the DTE, about 60,000 candidates were given allotment for BE courses in the State, they said.

Now the CLC for admissions to fill the vacant seats, mainly in private engineering colleges in the State, would be held between October 1 and 5, sources said.

Students who appeared for the Pre-Engineering Test as well as those who did not appear in them and wanted to seek admission on basis of qualifying exams (class XII) with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics would be eligible to participate in the CLC, sources said.

Incidentally, situation in government colleges is different as hardly any seats are vacant even as counseling for them would be completed on September 30, they said.

Last year, about 20,000 BE seats had remained vacant in different government and private engineering colleges in the State and the Madhya Pradesh Department of Technical Education officials had blamed it on global economic recession.
