The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has introduced the system of online submission of applications for the competitive examinations. This is in accordance with its e-governance initiative.
Many students have started applying online for the UPSC examinations notified in 2010. This facility is provided in addition to the pre-existing option of submitting paper applications but the candidates are encouraged to apply online as it would offer the following advantages:-
1) Confirmation of submitted application form is received online instantly. An online application requires one to pay only 50% of the fee required. The costs of buying paper application from the Post Office as well as the postal charges are saved.
2) One can apply sitting in the convenience of their homes or cyber cafes at any time, even during night.
3) The risk of postal delays is eliminated.
4) One's application, on account of wrong/incomplete data entry, cannot be rejected as online application systems have built-in self- scrutinising features which won’t allow leaving any column blank.
5) One can view and take a print out of one's application for future reference.
6) When applying online in response to any Examination Notice of the Commission, all one needs is the applicant's scanned photo and scanned signature in .png format of size not exceeding 40 KB.
7) For fee payment, one may choose to pay by Visa/Master Card, Debit/Credit Card or through the net banking facility.
