Tamil Nadu Agricultural University here would introduce a degree programme exclusively for farmers from this year.
The three year Bachelor of Farm Technology (B F Tech) was a pioneering effort and structured in such a way that farmers who enrolled should have the privilege of being a degree holder and also an expert in scientific agriculture, TNAU Vice-chancellor, Dr Murugesa Bhoopathi said today.
The special features of the degree programme offered by the Directorate of Open and Distance Learning department, were to create opportunities for farmer to become entrepreneur, perform farming and allied activities with a scientific bent of mind and updated technical knowhow and do how, he said.
Farmers would be provided with technologies for ploughing to harvesting, apart from post harvest technology for value addition, Bhoopathi said.
Subjects among more than 15, included agronomy, soil science, plant breeeing, seed technology, crop technology, entomology.
The eligibility criteria for admission was 10th appearance with an age limit of 30 years and above, Bhoopathi said.
