GATE-2011 on Feb 13

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) have announced that the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) - 2011 will be held on February 13, 2011.

This year, the examination will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology - Madras (IITM).

The all-India examination is conducted for admission to Master's degree programmes in Engineering, Technology, Architecture as well as Doctoral programmes in relevant branches of Science with the Ministry of Human Resource Development or other government scholarships, assistantships or fellowships.

The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear for GATE:

Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering/ Technology/Architecture (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.

Master's degree holders in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.

Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master's degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master's degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.

Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by IE(I), AMICE(I) by the Institute of Civil Engineers (India)-ICE(I)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

Candidates can submit the application form in two different modes, online and offline.

The information brochure and application form can be obtained on a cash payment of Rs 1000/- (Rs 500/- for SC/ST/PD) from the designated bank branches corresponding to each zone.

Application forms can also be obtained from the zonal GATE offices..

Duly filled-in Application Form with appropriate enclosures must be sent by Registered or Speed post to The Chairman, GATE of the Zone which the candidate prefers (corresponding to the 1st Choice of Examination City) to appear for the examination, so as to reach on or before November 2, 2010 or it can be handed over

The last date for the submission of application forms is November 2, 2010.
