MK Narayanan, Governor of West Bengal and former national security advisor delivered a leadership lecture on India’s engagement with the world at TA Pai School of Management on September 8.

The lecture was part of the Silver Jubilee Leadership Lecture series, a platform for students to interact with eminent leaders.

“Given the challenges of global governance, in an increasingly interconnected and multi-polar world, India is fully conscious of the need to enlarge the area of engagement with the world,” said Narayan.

“Nevertheless, while doing so, we remain focused on ensuring the economic progress of the nation and the well-being of its people, essentially through an avoidance of conflicts, especially in our immediate and extended neighbourhood,” he added.

The governor also spoke about how the world perceives India. “The dramatic shift in global perception of India is a recognition of India’s unique strengths,” he said.

Dr Saji Gopinath, Director, TAPMI, said: “In a country growing at fast pace, the academic institutions, especially the institutions like TAPMI should play a thought leadership role to debate and discuss on developmental issues crucial to society at large.”

MK Narayanan also touched on the need for radical restructuring of the UN to reflect contemporary reality. He spoke on India’s engagement with its neighbours including extended neighbours and two of its biggest neighbours — Pakistan and China and engagement with leading powers.

“Holistic management education needs to be a combination of both classroom pedagogy as well as experiential learning. In addition, the mind of the student needs to be enriched by interaction with men of eminence, who is leader in their own sphere of work,” said Prof Raghunath Rudran, TAPMI.
