More than 40, 000 students from 120 schools gathered at a stadium in Nagpur to commemorate the 105th anniversary of Vande Mataram, the national song of India. The event was jointly organized by the education department of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and an NGO Maitree Parivar.
The Mayor of Nagpur Archana Dehankar and Joint Commissioner of Police Anoop Singh were also present on the occasion. "On the 105th anniversary of our national song, it is a pleasure to hear the song from children of the city," Dehankar said.
The students also sang songs to celebrate the golden jubilee of the formation of Maharashtra. "Apart from singing Vande Mataram, students also lined up to form a map of India, in the colors of our national flag," said Pramod Penke, a member of Maitree Parivar.
