Kolkata: New-age schools in the city have performed brilliantly in the ICSE and ISC exams this year along with the eminent and traditional schools in Kolkata, which have always churned out toppers.
This was the first batch of students appearing for the ICSE exams from Garden High School established in 2001. The top scorer from the school is Purnav Sinha who scored 98.6%. Among the 43 students who took the exam, 25 students have scored above 90%. The rest have scored between 80% and 89%. Only two students have got below 80%
“We are extremely happy. This is the first batch and the results have been brilliant,” said pro-rector of the school, Kabita Guha.
The Future Foundation School was established in 1990. “We put more stress on project method teaching in our senior classes while in the junior classes, children learn through theme-based teaching,” said principal Ranjan Mitter.
In this school, 69 students appeared for the ICSE. Of them, 25 scored more than 90% while another 26 scored between 80% and 89%. The rest 18 scored above 70%. Prerna Datta scored the highest at 97.6% in ICSE while in ISC, Anusha topped with 97%.
Another new entrant in the city is The Heritage School, which was established in 2001. This was the fourth batch of students taking the ICSE exam while the second batch of students took the ISC. The number of students who took the ICSE is 145. Around 46 scored between 90% and 100%, 54 between 80% and 89% while 33 scored between 70% and 79%. Twelve scored between 60% and 69 %. Highest was by Rohit Poddar at 97.6%.
The number of students who appeared for the ISC exams is 170. More than 62 have scored between 90% and 100% while 74 crossed the 80% mark. Avik Sarkar scored the highest at 96.3% followed by Priyanka Taparia with 96.3%
The principal of La Martiniere for Boys School, Sunirmal Chakraborty, pointed out: “A successful student is not just one who produces brilliant exam results only, but combines it with other activities.”
In his school, of the 174 students who took ICSE, 46 scored above 90%. The highest scorer was 96.5%. At Pratt Memorial, around 128 students had taken the exam. Of them, 65 scored more than 90%. In ISC, 75 students scored more than 90%. At Don Bosco Park Circus, of the 183 students, 68 crossed the 90% barrier in ICSE. In ISC, among the 165 students, 70 scored more than 90%.
