Students looking for guidance on which stream to pursue after Class X now have a little help from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
Apart from holding an external board examination for students wanting to transfer to another board, a pre-university or a vocational course, the CBSE will also administer an aptitude test for the interested.
Teachers felt the tests would give an idea of where a student's interests lay-- whether he/she had a mechanical or artistic bent of mind, for instance. C. Sathish, Senior Principal of RMK Groups of Schools said: "The aptitude tests have nothing to do with their academics or performance in school. It is just a facility being offered for those who want to know where their strengths lie. It is not compulsory."
