The 'Sakshar Bharat' mission, the Centre's initiative to increase literacy in the country, is being implemented in Andhra Pradesh in 18 districts and it would soon be expanded to five more districts, Union Minister of State for HRD D Purandeswari said here today.
Highlighting the need for making people literate, she said the Centre is implementing elaborate plans to increase the literacy rate in the country, she said.
"Development and empowerment is possible only with literacy. Only with literacy, we can achieve a truly developed society," she said.
She inaugurated three-day programmes here that would conclude on World Literacy Day on September eight.
