Down Town University, the biggest in the private sector catering to engineering, management and pharmacy in the north east, will be inaugurated by Union Minister Bijay Krishna Handique on Sept 8.
Set up by the Down Town Charity Trust, the university will be the single largest educational campus in the North Eastern region and will offer five streams of engineering, management and pharmacy.
Announcing this at a press conference here, Trust chairman and managing director N.C. Dutta said the university would expand its infrastructure by adding more academic and administrative areas.
In five years time the unversity aims to have around 5000 students, he said adding besides academics, it will start courses in hospitality, travel and tourism and medicine.
The university has taken special initiative to reach out to all the sections of the society and hopes to be a catalyst for growth in the region, Dutta added.
