Faculty crunch
Premier institutes like the IITs and the IIMs are facing a faculty crunch with nearly one-third of the posts vacant. The HRD Minister, Kapil Sibal said that short-term measures like raising the retirement age and long-term measures to get young people to opt for this (teaching) career are being taken.

Heritage schools
The NCERT is planning to revive schools set up by eminent educational thinkers during the freedom struggle. Calling these heritage schools, the NCERT will restore them to carry forward their respective and unique ideologies. The schools will be selected from among those founded during the Indian freedom movement inspired by nationalist educational philosophy.
