To prevent malpractices and leakage of question papers during the semester examinations, the Madras University has decided to introduce certain new measures.
At the meeting of university's syndicate, it was decided that the question paper would be delivered at the examination centres only 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the test from the next semester examination onwards. This move is expected to prevent leakage of question papers.
According to the university's vice chancellor G Thiruvasagam, the syndicate approved a decision that only institutions which had Internet connectivity, photocopier and fax machines would be designated as examination centres in the future. This would ensure that in case there was a delay or mix-up in dispatching question paper, the same can be downloaded online or sent via fax and photocopied instantly.
Taking mobile phones inside examination centres will be strictly prohibited. "We will also subject students to an airport-like security check before they are allowed to enter examination halls," the vice chancellor said.
Recently, the university faced embarrassment following the leakage of a question paper set by Institute of Distance Education (IDE) for the MCA course.
Principals of colleges which are designated as examination centres will be held responsible for any untoward incidents in the respective centres as they are the de-facto chief superintendents of the centre.
