MCI nod for Puducherry Govt medical college

The Board of Governors of MCI has accorded its nod to Puducherry Government to commence its medical college with an annual intake of 150 students in MBBS course from the current academic year, official sources here said.

The MCI had last month rejected approval for the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute citing lack of facilities. After rectifying the deficiencies, the

Union Territory Goverment had moved the Madras High Court seeking a diretive to MCI to reconsider its application for approval.
  
The MCI has communicated its approval to Puducherry Health Minister E Valsaraj, Chairman of the Medical College Society that has sponsored the college, who is camping in New Delhi, his office here said.
  
The college, constructed at a cost of Rs 130 crores, was conceptualised during the tenure of N.Rangasamy as Chief Minister in 2005, but encountered several hiccups.
