Inaugurating a new government polytechnic college at Kaniyalampatti in Kadavur Taluk of the Karur district on Wednesday, the district Collector J.Uma Maheswari stressed the fact that technical education holds the key to growth.
The collector stressed the need for students to opt for technical education that could earn them their daily bread and also propel them to prosperity on the fast track.
Technical education held the key to prosperity and it was all the more noteworthy that a rural pocket is set to possess a polytechnic college , she added.
Stating that it was high time the students in the rural areas had access to quality technical education, the Collector said Kadavur Taluk, a backward area in the district, would be helped well with the opening of the new polytechnic college.
A total of 45 new teaching and administrative positions have been created for the college, she said.
She expressed the hope that the polytechnic would soon function in its own building.
The 300 students enlisted for the current year would be taught in a temporary location.
The Collector appreciated the efforts of Krishnarayapuram MLA P. Kamaraj and others who donated lands for making this polytechnic college a reality.
Mr. Kamaraj thanked the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, and Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for sanctioning the polytechnic for the backward area.
After counselling 300 candidates were selected from over 860 applications.
