Mahatma Gandhi University has initiated steps to improve the functioning of its examination wing.
Efforts have been made to ensure the timely completion of the modernisation and computerisation programmes of the wing. Rajan Varughese, Pro-Vice Chancellor, said here that the process is progressing in a phased manner in the university.
A new computer centre in the silver jubilee Pareeksha Bhavan will be the central point of all examination related works. Steps have already been taken to install a high capacity computer server in the university, he said.
He said that online facilities will be made in the EB-Sections, which deal with the appointment of examiners and scheduling of examinations. The university is planning to utilise the Rs. 2 crore sanctioned by the government for the automation works in the examination branch in connection with the implementation of the choice-based credit and semester system (CBCSS).
The PVC said that the university had introduced online transfer of valued data (grades) from the centralised valuation camps directly to the computer wing of the university (CETEX). The submission of internal grades online by colleges was operationalised during the second semester examinations.
The university had provided laptops and net cards to each valuation centre official for the hassle free transfer of data. Principals of all affiliated colleges were provided with a unique code number enabling them to download the hall tickets.
This enabled the university as well as the colleges to overcome the limitation of time in preparing the hall tickets and issuing them to each college.
He said that the transition of the undergraduate programmes from annual stream to CBCSS stream was carried out by the university smoothly.
There is only one more regular batch of B.A./B.Sc./B.Com students in the annual stream, which will be completed by 2011 April/May examinations, he said.
