Soon 100 schools in TN to get e-smart classrooms

Facilitating better learning, the e-smart classroom, has now made its way into the government schools in Tamil Nadu.

Recently, a state-run school in Nilgiris, the government higher secondary school at Mallangkinaru, was provided with the facility.

On Thursday, Poongothai Aladi Aruna, state IT Minister opened the e-smart classroom with two touch screen computers, LCD projector, white boards and markers, audio-visual CDs and DVDs for all subjects costing up to Rs 5 lakh. The e-smart facility will be made available to students from class VI to XII. The teacher will only act as a facilitator.

Thennarasu said that this mode of teaching would kindle the students’ interest in subjects like Maths, Science and Social Studies.

“The lessons have been designed based on the prescribed textbooks. Once broadband connectivity is made available, then textbook-based lessons can be supplemented with information from the internet.†The minister announced that 100 government schools would be provided with e-smart classrooms on the first phase.

Meanwhile, Poongothai said, “The project that envisages the use of IT in classrooms will help students’ creativity as 90 percent of children, according to a survey, were average.â€
