The Maharashtra government has appointed a committee comprising a core group of seven ministers to address the problem of educated jobless youths in the state.
"With over 28 lakh youths registered unemployed with the employment exchange till June, the State Cabinet decided to appoint a committee to take some immediate measures," an official from Employment and Self-Employment Department said.
Chief Minister Ashok Chavan was keen on solving the issue of increasing educated unemployeds by guiding and training them for employment oriented courses, the official said.
The core group is expected to give suggestions on strengthening the employment and self-employment services, planning various workshops and programmes to guide jobless youths and also review if local people are getting priority in jobs, the official added.
The Government has issued orders in this regard and other members of the core group include Ministers of Higher and Technical Education, Tribal, Labour, Agriculture and School Education, Minority Welfare and a State Minister from Employment and Self-Employment department, the official said.
