Revised General Test launch

Updated on: Sunday, August 22, 2010

The announcement of the GRE®  revised General Test launch will get some added attention by students returning to campus, as ETS marks the “One Year to Go” milestone until the test’s August 2011 introduction.

Students thinking about their graduate and business school options will begin to prepare in earnest for the upcoming changes.

“We have received tremendously positive feedback from students and faculty about the changes that will be introduced in August 2011,” says David G Payne, VP and COO of College and Graduate Programs at ETS. “The early announcement, the availability of free test preparation materials for the GRE revised General Test, and the news about the special, limited-time 50-per cent discount in August and September 2011 mean test takers have ample time to prepare at their own pace.”

Since posting its free test preparation materials on the GRE® website, ETS has seen the number of visits grow as students become more interested in learning about the new types of questions and new functionality that will be part of the GRE revised General Test when it is introduced.

Some of the new features that test takers will notice about the GRE revised General Test include:

>> More questions featuring real-life scenarios that better reflect the kind of thinking students will do in today’s demanding graduate and business school programs

>> A better test-taking experience with many new navigation features, including the ability to skip questions and go back to them later within a section

>> New answer types, such as filling in a number or providing more than one response when asked, so students can better demonstrate what they know

>> An on-screen calculator* for the Quantitative Reasoning section
