The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has instituted two awards to encourage schools across the country to implement the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) and the Mentoring and Monitoring system.
There are currently 11,044 schools affiliated to the CBSE in the country. The CCE awards will take into consideration awareness of the evaluation system, its implementation, record keeping, use of teaching aids, advocacy programme for parents and training for teachers, format of report card, lesson planning, among other factors.
CBSE chairman Vineet Joshi said, "Each CCE award will include a certificate and a cash reward of Rs 21,000. The mentor award for principals will carry a certificate and Rs 10,000 in cash. We have set up seven criteria for CCE and four additional criteria for mentor awards based on which the winners will be decided.''
The mentor award for principals will include all the criteria of CCE and additional conditions of schools covered, kind of support given to the mentored schools, report submitted to CBSE and feedback received from the mentored schools. Each mentor is a principal who will be assigned three to six schools in the neighbourhood.
Principal of Springdales, Pusa Road, Amita Mulla Wattal, said, "These awards have been instituted to train schools. Every school will be a mentor and will be monitored as well. It is difficult for CBSE to monitor each and every school every day. This will create a network and create an atmosphere conducive for sharing of good practices.''
The award is open to both private and government-run schools, although CBSE initially announced it for private independent schools. Joshi said, "The idea is not to create any competition, but to ensure CCE implementation and innovation. That is why we have now decided to include all categories of schools. This is also an opportunity for schools to revamp the internal school assessment system."
