In an effort to boost vocational educational institutions, the government on Wednesday said that it was open to seeking foreign investment in the sector and planned to bring a National Vocational Education Framework within a year.
The framework is expected to provide a key thrust area under which training schools will be set up across the country to develop skills of students at the 10+2 level.
HRD minister Kapil Sibal said a lot of foreign investment is being planned for vocational education which will train students in various areas including paramedics, paralegals, and in the hospitality sector. "We have decided to constitute a National Vocational Education Framework (NVEF) within the next one year,'' he said during question hour.
In a related issue, the Centre rejected the states' demand to provide up to 100 per cent funds for implementing Right to Education Act and asked them to contribute to the national mission as they have surplus funds. "Several chief ministers have written to me asking for 100 per cent funds or 90 per cent. It is not possible as the Centre has done maximum possible by providing Rs 2,31,000 crore. Now it is for the states to contribute,'' Sibal said.
