Principals to assess CCE in other schools

Updated on: Tuesday, August 10, 2010

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has brought into action a new programme to asses whether the schools have been successful in implementing the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE).

According to a circular that had been recently issued by the CBSE across India, school principals have been told to act as "peer assessors", that is, monitors who would be responsible for capacity building and learning from the experiences of all schools.

The circular said that this would be implemented with the help of a 'monitor/mentor framework'. Under the system, the principal of each schools will be assigned around six to eight schools that are in their own neighborhood.

Principals of government schools would be allotted government schools whereas principals of public schools would be allotted public schools.

The duty of the principals would be to visit the schools that have been allotted to them and record their observations of the functioning of the school and classrooms, information gained through interaction with teachers and students, self-review etc.

Principals who have been chosen to mentor schools would also help in giving schools allotted to them suggestions and guidance to help them in areas that require improvement.

The mentoring principals have been asked to visit the schools they have been allotted at least twice during a term and submit their reports and observations by December. The SBSE would then assess all data that has been collected.

Based on the assessment, one of the schools would be awarded as the Best CCE School and a mentor would be chosen for the Best Mentor award in March, 2011.
