Internship online

Updated on: Monday, August 02, 2010

Internship is an opportunity to explore a career option, get hands-on training and network with like-minded professionals. But all this largely depends on how friendly the organisation is.

Finding the right place for a few weeks or a month to polish skills acquired in college is not always a cakewalk. Sometimes letters and reminders to the organisation do not generate any response.

Some companies do not accept a student's request for internship, unless otherwise the head of the department or college has endorsed the internship or if the college has a mutual understanding.

So, which are the companies that are more than happy to get students? What are their requirements? How long is the training ground they would offer students?

You could get all such details on the portal www.twenty19.com.

This is a new initiative of two Chennai-based entrepreneurs – Karthikeyan Vijayakumar and Rahul Prabhakar. The site connects college students to a variety of opportunities.

360 clients

It currently has nearly 360 companies signed up, offering internship programmes in the field of arts, content writing, marketing, software and electronic companies.

Getting to intern in the industrial sector, especially in plants/machinery, is one challenging area the two hope to add soon to the website.

According to Mr. Vijayakumar, over 3,000 students have been connected to companies in the last two months. “Plus, at least 70 per cent of the companies listed with us offer a stipend for students, the average being Rs. 5,000.”

In addition to internship, the website offers information on events, competitions, tech fests, scholarships and training course and has articles that could guide you.
