SAE India Workshop

Updated on: Monday, August 02, 2010

On the 23rd and 24th July, about 250 students of 60 teams from some of the major engineering colleges in India witnessed brain storming sessions on the ways to tackle the Baja SAE India 2011 competition - an event that will task Indian engineering students to design and build an off-road vehicle that will survive the severe punishment of rough terrain.

As it has been doing over the past years, the event endeavors to inculcate and harness talent to augment design and engineering skills of the engineering students. The goal of this competition is to provide these students a world-class platform to showcase their talent and potential not only in terms of design and engineering skills, but also assess their capability for teamwork, entrepreneurship, leadership and management skills.

The two day event was organised by the SAE India collegiate club of Sardar Patel College of Engineering, Mumbai. Dr S Y Mhaiskar, Principal of the host SP College along with Dr AV Bhonsale, Head of Mechanical Engineering Department and also Prof. VD Raul, the Faculty Advisor for the SPCE team coordinated and supported this workshop.

The event saw the presence of entrepreneurs such as Behram Dhabar, Rajeev Mokashi, Padmesh Sewda, etc. from leading industries pertaining to the automotive field. The topics covered in the workshop ranged from in depth technical aspects of the car to subjects such as management and motivation as well. Useful tips were given to make the vehicle safer and environment friendly by Vinaya Mundada,  Bipin Shah, Dr Manish Jaiswal. A video conferencing session with Dr Thomas Gillespie was arranged to explain the students the different aspects of vehicle dynamics.

All these power packed lectures over a period of two days were efficiently managed by the students of SPCE, who conducted this workshop for the second time after its last year’s striking success. This year too the event proved to be very beneficial for one and all, thus ending on a grand note.
