Anna University of Technology - Madurai, established recently by the State government, has obtained the necessary approvals to offer six full-time postgraduate courses.
Admission process for M.E., M.B.A. and M.C.A. programmes would commence in a few days after completing the formalities, according to R. Murugesan, Vice-Chancellor.
“We are simultaneously proceeding on two important aspects. Firstly, we have to complete procedures for obtaining approvals for courses and also initiate steps for recruitment of staff required for the university campus in Madurai as well as its constituent colleges,” he told The Hindu here on Thursday.
The university, which is functioning temporarily from the Madurai Kamaraj University campus on Alagarkoil Road from this academic year, would offer four M.E. programmes besides the M.B.A. and M.C.A. courses from anytime in August.
In M.E, it is going to offer Mechanical Engineering (Engineering Design), Electrical Engineering (Power Management), Electronics and Communication Engineering and also Computer Science Engineering. For the M.B.A. and M.C.A. courses, the Anna University of Technology - Madurai would have 60 seats each. Dr. Murugesan said that 25 students would be admitted to each full-time M.E. programme.
“We are also contemplating starting part-time M.E. courses. That will be decided once the regular programmes gets going,” he said.
A three-member committee headed by the Vice-Chancellor is looking after the administrative affairs and issues such as course approvals. Teaching and non-teaching staff would be appointed for the university campus in Madurai and also for the varsity's constituent colleges in Dindigul and Ramnad, he added.
The process of identifying suitable land for the university in and around Madurai is going at a fast pace and it will be decided in ten days' time. “Three sites are being looked in to and it will take sometime to take a final decision,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
Dr. Murugesan, who is the first Vice-Chancellor of Anna University of Technology-Madurai, was felicitated by the Tamil Nadu Government Polytechnic Teachers' Association at a function held in the Tamil Nadu Polytechnic College in the city on Thursday evening.
