As part of internalisation of higher education, University of Madras today Signed MoUs with ten US Universities.
Mr G Thiruvasagam, Vice Chancellor, University of Madras gave the information at the inauguration of ''Experience America'', event held at Alpha Matriculation Higher Secondary School here.
He said international exchange in education should be a two-way process where students, faculty and knowledge are exchanged and not merely received by us.
''In this scenario, our institutions are rapidly learning how to market the expertise available among us. Also the benefits of such exchanges should come down to grass roots levels where higher education abroad will not be the right of only the elite of our country'', he said.
Realising the importance of education in attaining economic competitiveness, both India and America were making reforms in education to make every child literate. This would enable the nations to thrive successfully in a global economy that is dependent on knowledge and investment. The exchange programmes are towards achieving this goal, he said.
He said India has moved from being a job-seeking economy to one that is being driven by demand in developed nations for services.
