Former Aussie cricket captain Steve Waugh Monday said Australia is completely safe for Indian students.
"Australia always welcomes Indian students and we make sure that our country is totally safe for them. We would make the best effort to look after the safety and security of international students and that they have a great time in Australia," Waugh told reporters here.
Waugh was in this union territory to take part in the promotional campaign of Navitas, a global education service provider.
He is the brand ambassador of Navitas, which represents 1,500 colleges in nine countries.
"No society can guarantee full security, but we are making the best efforts. At this moment, I can only say that in 99.9 percent of cases Indian students have a fantastic experience and they love to come to Australia. They always have good stories to share," he said.
Over 50 Indian students have been injured in attacks in Australian cities, most of them in and around Melbourne, in the last few months. Two Punjabi students were also killed in racial attacks in Australia.
Around 46,000 Indian students stay in Melbourne and its adjoining areas, Australian officials say.
