Noida students allege cheating, college says they damaged property

Students of a private management institute here Thursday complained to the police about their college cheating them by making false promises of assured placements but instead found themselves booked for damaging college property. The institute termed the incident a 'conspiracy'.

A group of students of Gayatri International Institute of Planning and amp; Management (GIIPM) in this satellite township adjoining New Delhi claimed that the college had given them false assurances of a university degree and placements with leading firms after charging a fee of Rs.250,000 per annum.

'The college promised that it would provide a regular MBA degree. But when we enquired from Guru Jambeshwar University to which the college was affiliated, they told us that no college outside Haryana was entitled to give us a regular degree. They told us that the institute was only entitled to provide us a correspondence degree, which was not laid down under the college's admission agreements,' said Sarvesh Mishra, a fourth semester MBA student of GIIPM.

'Further, the college promised us excellent placements at a good package. Only a few days are left for our MBA course (to finish), and there are no placements in sight. We paid the full fees at the start of the course and many of us are studying here on education loans. But the college has been cheating us,' he said.
