Stringent action against ragging

Updated on: Saturday, July 24, 2010

Stringent action would be taken against those indulging in ragging in educational institutions and eve teasing, police today warned.

Talking to reporters after inaugurating a Karate training programme for Stella Mary's Women's College students by the Commando police force, Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) (Law and Order) Shakeel Akhtar said it was the responsibility of the Head of the institutions to ensure that incidents of ragging did not take place.

He said so far no incident of ragging had been reported since the educational institutions re-opened after vacations this year.

''The police had not received any complaint of ragging or eve-teasing so far. If we receive any complaint, we will register a FIR and take stringent action'', he added.

While, inaugurating the Karate training, Mr Shakeel Akhtar said it was a martial art sport being taught to girls for self-defence.

Similar training programmes would be organised in all the women's colleges in the state, he added.
