IIM-Lucknow, Kolkata to conduct CAT-2010

The prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow (IIM-L) which is conducting the online Common Admission Test (CAT), 2010 for top management courses with the assistance of IIM-Kolkata today asserted that the test would be hassel-free this year.

'' Some technical glitches were witnessed last year but this year all aspects have already been taken care of and the same company Promatrik will conduct the examinations to be held at centres in 32 cities,'' IIM-Lucknow Admission chairman and convenor of CAT-2010 Himanshu Rai told UNI here.

Unlike last year, the 10-day window has been extended to 20 days between October 27 and November 23 to avoid any technical slip due to hurry, he said.

''Several other steps are also being taken to avoid any technical problems in the online conduction of the exam this year ,'' Dr Rai informed. He said the tie-up with Promatrik would continue this year too, which would look after the conduction of the test akin to the last year. There would be at least 32 cities, where the CAT would be held.

Just like the last year, each examinee would be provided computer instead of question papers. The candidate would give the examination on computer itself, he apprised. Adding to it, he said the sites would be taken in control before two weeks against one week time and the problematic centers have been removed this year.

It was only the last year, when the computer-based test format was made applicable for the CAT examination. However, several technical glitches and poor management had affected the smooth conduction of the examination in as many as 24 test centres in 13 cities across the country.

The responsibility of conducting the online CAT-2009 was shouldered by the directors of IIM-A and IIM-Bangalore, with professor Deodhar as the convenor. IIM-Ahmedabad had conducted the prestigious examination in 2008 and 2009 in association with IIM-Bangalore. The results for admissions to top business schools of the country would be out in January 2011, Dr Rai said.
