The final session of Modular Course on Print Journalism- Writing For Effect by Eastern Institute of Management in collaboration with The Times of India was held on July 17.
The course commenced on May 29, 2010. It was a 24-hour course conducted over eight consecutive Saturdays. Each session was for three hours. Past and present journalists were invited to give lectures and each of them spoke with regard to his area of expertise. The objective of the course was to give an insight to the way journalism should be done.
"This kind of short courses has wide acceptance," said Prof. Pradip Dutta.
There were 36 participants across all age groups. This brought in a huge diversity to the classes.
As Dutta said: "Things have gone far beyond writing, with students discussing about ethics in journalism, infotainment and whether editors kill journalism."
Bob Roy, editor, Times of India (East), took the last session of the course. It was a question answer interaction, followed by a valedictory. Participants asked various questions about how an article is edited, career options in journalism and how newspapers recruit people.
Certificates were given to all the students for successfully completing the course. Four students were given prizes, sponsored by The Times of India, for excellent writing skills.
