National Institute for Smart Government (NISG), Hyderabad, in association with the information technology department of the ministry of communications and information technology and TA Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) has announced a one-year postgraduate e-Governance Programme (eGPX) for executives. This programme is specifically targeted at middle and senior level executives working in the government, public and private sectors.

eGPX aims to enable participants to understand an e-government system from the point of view of the various stakeholders that includes citizens , businesses and the government. State-of-the-art classroom technology and pedagogy shall be used to simulate real-life situations and prepare participants to understand the enormity of challenges involved in e-governance transformation projects. The course is divided into three terms. To give ample exposure to e-governance projects, it also includes a study tour and an 18-month internship period.

"eGPX intends to bring together government officers who have a clear idea of the processes that need ICTenabled change and professionals from the private sector (including IT) who would help implement this change. Learning about the possibilities of using ICT for citizen-centric, transparent governance and working together to make it happen is the aim of the programme," said Jaba M Gupta, chairperson eGPX. The admissions for the 2010-11 batch of eGPX will close on July 31.

The national e-governance plan initiated by the Indian government to transform government departments and agencies from a department-centric mode of working to a citizen-centric way of working has been one of the prime inspirations for launching this course.
