Management exam fever is likely to catch up with most students. And there are many aptitude tests in the offing for those who are on the ball. CAT, GMAT, MICA and much more… However, MAT appears to be the exam that most students take. The reason is simple: unlike other aptitude tests which are conducted once a year, the repeated periodicity of MAT is its USP. Usually conducted every quarter by the All India Management Association or AIMA, in September, December, February and May, MAT gives students the opportunity for admission to over 450 management institutes spread across the country. And all participating institutes are either AICTE approved or affiliated to a university. Approved by the HRD Ministry, MAT is conducted in all major cities in India and in select cities abroad. MAT will be held on September 5 this year.

SNAP: Slated for December 19 this year, SNAP (The Symbiosis National Aptitude Test) is conducted under the aegis of SIEC Deemed University and held in around 29 cities. Anyone with a three-year Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in any discipline recognised by the Association of Indian Universities is eligible. This is the written test required for admission into the Symbiosis Post Graduate Institutes.
TANCET: The Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test is for those seeking admission into Anna University and its affiliated institutes —Anna varsities of Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli and Tirunelveli. A notification is out.
JMET: The Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) is for students seeking admission to the two-year full time Postgraduate Degree Programme in Management offered by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. Architecture graduates might also be considered, so might those who have a Masters in Economics and Commerce, provided they have done Maths or Statistics at the Bachelors level.
MICA: The Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA) offers a PGP in Communications Management (PGPCM) and Professional Development Programmes. Candidates who are short-listed from the CAT/ XAT/ GMAT are subsequently required to appear for MICAT which normally takes place after CAT. Centres are at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai.
XAT: The Xavier Admission Test (XAT) is conducted by the Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur. Eligibility is a three-year Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in any discipline recognised by the Association of Indian Universities. The exam is conducted in about 31 cities across the country. No date for XAT has been announced so far.
NMAT: Effective from 2010 this is now an online admission test conducted in India and abroad and is associated with the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management and Higher Studies (NMIMS). NMIMS has about 420 seats available.
