Now 6 years to get MBBS degree in A.P

Andhra Pradesh government decided to make 1 year rural service compulsory for all MBBS students from the 2010 academic year to solve shortage of doctors in villages. Now all medical students of the A.P will have to spend 6 years to get a MBBS degree from this 2010 academic year.Chief Minister has given his consent to add one year rural service to the existing MBBS course and the decision will be announced soon.
So, Those who join MBBS this year will get their degree only in 2016 and not in 2015. They have to undergo one year rural service after completing their regular course. This decision does not have the clearance from the MCI and the Union health ministry. Government said There is no need for permission from the MCI, need consent from the NTR Health University.
 
The state had in fact failed to spend funds worth Rs 690 crore sanctioned under the NRHM in the last five years because of this. Health education wing will issue a separate notification informing the students who qualified the Eamcet that the duration of their MBBS course will be 6 years.
