One more satellite likely from Anna University

Chennai: After the successful launch of the country's first educational institution-developed micro-satellite Anusat earlier this month, the authorities at Anna University (Chennai) are deliberating on the scope for developing and launching a second satellite.The university has begun transmitting data through the satellite that was put into orbit by the Indian Space Research Organisation ( ISRO).

Speaking to journalists in a casual interaction, Anna University (Chennai) vice-chancellor P Mannar Jawahar said the Anusat, developed by students of the Madras Institute of Technology and the College of Engineering, Guindy, had been placed in its orbit and all sub-components were functioning properly

'Since ANUSAT is only a micro-satellite, it has its own limitation in transmitting data. Consequently, we are exploring the possibility of launching a second sophisticated satellite with an aim of connecting educational institutions in India. However, this would require an investment of Rs 12 crore,' he said.
