Arunachal Pradesh is set to get a facelift in the education sector once the Right to Education (RTE) Act comes into effect with in full force, Education Minister Bosiram Siram said.
The minister was addressing a gathering of students and public during the inaugural function of the newly upgraded government higher secondary school at Muri-Mugli in Upper Subansiri district yesterday, official sources informed today.
He disclosed that the state government has been working in full swing to solve various problems affecting the education sector and accordingly the cabinet had recently approved creation of posts, including 19 principals, 10 head masters, 100 subject teachers and other clerical staff.
''This step of the government will go a long way in improving the standard of education in schools across the state,'' the minister felt.
He further disclosed that Arunachal was one of the first states to partially implement the RTE Act. ''Through this tool, the students from class I to VIII would get their school fees being waived, free textbooks and even free school uniforms in the future,'' he added. As students from class I to XI would not have to face board examinations from 2011 as it would be replaced by the Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system, he urged them to be sincere, obedient and attend classes regularly.
Terming the students as important human resources who stand to determine the future of the state, he said it was essential to shape them as exemplary citizens and called upon the teachers to provide student-centric education.
