Under the scheme, 45,000 rural youth would be trained in fields of telecom, BPO and security guard and at least 75 per cent of them would be placed suitably in relevant sector.
Being implemented across India by two agencies, the programme would be carried out in 20 states -- Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Orissa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and West Bengal.
Fifty per cent of the total BPL enrolment is required to be from scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, while fifteen per cent BPL candidates have to be from minority communities.
IGNOU has trained and awarded certificates to 10,219 candidates from the rural areas of the above mentioned states under this scheme.
A total of 7,269 people have been provided with employment with guaranteed minimum wages, PF, ESI and other social security benefits.
