Over the last four years, thousands of children in the age group of 5 to 12 years get their education at their Single Teacher Schools under the leadership of Swami Dayananda Saraswathi.
Last four years has witnessed a silent revolution taking place in various rural part of Tamil Nadu, where a group of former top corporates are involved in teaching young deprived ones.
With the launch of Single Teacher Schools the students need not walk long distance over five km to go to the nearest school. It would have only one teacher to educate the children from 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm, but the school comes next door.
This initiative is becoming a great success with 1,200 schools coming up and over 35,000 students enrolling in them.
Explaining how the school functions, Dr Kalyanaraman, the president of Swami Vivekananda Rural Development Society (SVRDS), which is involved in running the schools says, they would identify the best educated youth in every village who is willing to become a teacher and train him with requisite basic training in teaching.
