All about agri-business

The Indian Institute of Plantation Management (IIPM), located in Malathahalli, Bangalore, offers a post-graduate diploma in Agri-Business & Plantation Management (ABPM).

This course, equivalent to MBA, is a 24-month residential programme approved by the All India Council for Technical Education. It is co-promoted by the Commodity Boards of India, Coffee Board, Rubber Board, Tea Board, Spices Board and plantation industry associations. IIPM has been focusing on the field of plantation and associated agri-business, and commodity management education.

“The faculty, the course and the syllabus are up-to-date and they equip us well. The important thing we learn in this course is how to make farmers get the right worth for their work,” says Amrita Shrivastava, an ex-IIPM student working as marketing executive for Biocon.

In this course various facets of management such as finance, production, accountancy, marketing, international commodity and human resource handling will be taught. Within 24 months, a compulsory four-month paid internship with corporate companies will be provided to the students. The ‘Study Abroad' programme is designed for those who are interested in International Agri-Business.

The job profile of students after completing this course will be ‘Management Trainee' or 'Assistant Manager.'

The average salary range recorded for this course till now has been from Rs 3.75-4 lakh per annum to a maximum of Rs. 7.25 lakh. “From the inception of the Institute in 1993 till now we have had 100 per cent placements,” says Dhanakumar V.G., Director of IIPM.

Eligibility

A minimum of 50 per cent marks in any field of graduation is required. An applicant should have written either one of CAT/MAT/PAT exams. IIPM will conduct a written test followed by a group discussion and an individual interview.

Based on all these criteria a seat will be given to the student. A maximum of 90 students will be admitted and will be divided into two different sections.
