Department of MBA of Dr. SNS Rajalakshmi College of Arts and Science inaugurated “Growth- A Guide to Cultivating Self-Development” to enable students to perform better in the on- and off-campus interviews. It was inaugurated by R. Dhandapani, former Director of Lakshmi Vilas Bank, who gave a lecture about life skills.

A one-day faculty development training camp on ‘blended learning' was held by P.A. College of Engineering and Technology in association with Grammaticus, Chennai. De-stressing techniques, alternate methods of teaching and differences between teaching, training and facilitating were illustrated. P. Appukutty, Chairman, delivered the presidential address and R. Devarajan, Professor, talked about the responsibilities that lie with present day professionals in his valedictory remarks.

The MBA students of Coimbatore Institute of Engineering and Technology conducted a campaign to promote the protection of the Ooty Lake, on their industrial visit to Hindustan Photo Films, as a part of their Students' Social Responsibility Programme. Handbills highlighting the necessity to protect the lake from pollution were distributed to locals and tourists.

KTVR Knowledge Park for Engineering and Technology inaugurated a Personality Development Club. V. Sakthi, Tamil Film Actor, was the chief guest for the day. He shared his college and acting experiences and also had an interaction session with the students. The objective of the club is to groom students into multi-faceted personalities.

Karpagam Institute of Technology, Eachanari, conducted its annual day and sports day. The chief guest, T. T. Kannadasan, Vice-Chancellor (officiate), Anna University, stressed on preserving the environment for the future generations and advised the students to carry out research work at the undergraduate level itself. Prizes and certificates were awarded for academic, cultural and sports excellence.

The University Placement Cell and Shrishti Quiz Club of Avinashilingam University held ‘Inquizitive -2010' for all graduates. Conducted by Biju Velayudan, Senior Manager –IT, G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial Hospital, the quiz programme was to provide students an opportunity to enhance their knowledge in various fields. Prizes were distributed by Saroja Prabhakaran, Vice-Chancellor, Avinashilingam University for Women.

Ranganathan Engineering College (REC) organised a six-day soft skill training programme for the pre-final year students sponsored by Anna University. Rose Witherow, training co-ordinator, Success Triology (Australia) and her team trained 236 students, at the end of which R. Murugesan, Principal, REC, delivered the valedictory address.

Kalaivani College of Technology organised a one-day workshop on ‘Motivation and Stress Management' recently. Ragunath, representative of Relax, Chennai, conducted the workshop.

Tejaa Shakthi Institute of Technology for Women, Karumathampatti, celebrated its second annual day and sports day recently. The chief guest, Saroja Prabhakaran, Vice-Chancellor, Avinashilingam University for Women, talked about the opportunities beckoning girl students and distributed prizes to academic and sports winners.

N.G.M College conducted an offer letter giving function to 370 students who got selected in campus interviews of companies like Infosys, Wipro, Sutherland, KGISL, IGATE, Tutor Vista etc. The programme organiser, T. Kalyanassunder, Training and Placement Officer, gave away soft-skill development certificates.

The student association, Department of Biomedical engineering, Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College ‘Bioelixir' conducted a valedictory function recently. The chief guest, S. Noorul Amin Shahid, Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Medicine, Coimbatore Medical College, highlighted the scope of biomedical engineers in the future and their role in healthcare before awarding certificates to the academic toppers.

Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science celebrated the college day and sports day in GKD Auditorium, Coimbatore. Swami Anuraganandaji Maharaj stressed on the need for religious-based education for the younger generation in his presidential address.

PSG Polytechnic, 1960 batch held its golden jubilee reunion at the PSG Tech Assembly Hall on April 17. C.R. Swaminathan, CEO, PSG Institutions was the chief guest and N. Subramaniam, President, Alumni Association presided over the function.

The University Grants Commission sanctioned Rs. 4.77 lakh to the Department of Commerce, Kovai Kalaimagal College of Arts and Science for a project on the “Role of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the development of socio-economic status of women in Coimbatore district. G. Angaiah, Department of Commerce, is the principal investigator of the project.

The Department of Management, Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology organised a one-day ‘National Conference on Indian Business Research (IBR 2010) sponsored by All India Council of Technical Education. The technical session was chaired by AGV. Narayan, Dean, Builders Institute of Management, Kangeyam and R. Joseph Xavier, Principal, Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology, presided over the inaugural and valedictory functions.

Gurupragati '10, a faculty development programme on the art of writing a research article, was organised by Sree Narayana Guru Institute of Management Studies. Around 40 faculty members from various colleges participated. A. Ramanathan, Director, School of Management, Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, was the chief guest.

ICE '10 was held by the Civil Department of Kumaraguru College of Technology. The chief guest, B. Ramesh, Assistant Vice-President, Chettinad Cement Corporation, talked about green buildings and their importance in today's construction industry. Out of 130 received papers, 60 were selected and presented.

Jasiga 2010, a State-level technical symposium, was conducted by Jansons Institute of Technology. Sixteen colleges in and around Coimbatore took part in various events and the chief guest, Rangarajan, lecturer in Corporate Secretaryship, PSG College of Arts and Science, distributed cash prizes to the winners.

A staff development programme on ‘Recent advances in novel drug delivery system', sponsored by All India Council of Technical Education, was conducted by KMCH College of Pharmacy. R. Manavalan, Professor & Head, Department of Pharmacy, Annamalai University was the chief guest of the function.

A ‘National Conference on Recent Trends in Industrial Automation and Soft Computing –NCRTIASC10'was conducted by the Department of EIE and EEE of Maharaja Engineering College. N. Kuppuswamy, Principal, delivered the presidential address.

Counselling for admission into first year part time B.E/ B.Tech courses in Government and Government-aided colleges was held in the Coimbatore Institute of Technology on behalf of the Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai. V. Selvadurai, Institution Principal and C. Vivekanandan, Co-ordinator handed over allotment orders to students who got admission.

A two-week staff development programme, sponsored by All India Council of Technical Education, was held in Easa College of Engineering and Technology recently. The chief guest, A.R. Santhakumar, Professor, Centre for Disaster Mitigation and Management, Anna University, Chennai, in his address asserted that it is poorly constructed buildings that kill people and not the actual earthquakes.
