The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA), a national level test conducted by the Council of Architecture (COA), is recommended for students aspiring to do it big as a future architect. The test is the gateway for admissions into various 5-year bachelors of architecture courses offered by nearly 190 colleges and institutions including the National Institutes of Technology.
For NITs and the Schools of Planning and Architecture, a student can also get admission through the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE). With regard to other colleges, the NATA test is being conducted by the national COA, which is a statutory body regulating architecture education and profession in the country.
The test centre for the NATA in coastal Andhra Pradesh is located at the SAR College of Architecture, Agiripalli, Krishna district.
After Intermediate, the students can appear for the online NATA test at this centre between March 1 and September 30 every year. From the 2010 academic year, the SAR College of Architecture has started offering its services to enable local students appear for the NATA test.
Mandava Jitendra, chairman of the SAR College, says that it is a matter of pride for them to offer the NATA test services in this region.
It is one among the 100-odd centres available in the entire country. He says that there is a great need to create awareness about the NATA test and also about the increasing opportunities in the field of architecture. According to him, most students and institutions engaged in giving intermediate education do not know that there is a separate test for admissions into the 5-year architecture courses.
Mr. Jitendra says that there is a high demand for professional architects, as there is increased awareness about building rules and regulations. Though there is a need for nearly 1 lakh professional architects, only 1100 are presently active in the field .He advises students to appear for the NATA test and join a formal institute of architecture to realise their dreams of becoming professional architects.
