Education ministers of Assam and Rajasthan today met HRD Minister Kapil Sibal here and discussed problems faced by their states in implementing the recently enacted Right To Education Act.
Sibal asked Education Minister of Assam Gautam Borah to change the pattern of elementary schooling in the state as it is not in conformity with the national format, an official release said.
The elementary education cycle in Assam is of seven years period which include four years of primary and three at upper primary. However, as per the national pattern, the primary and upper primary comprise five and three years of schooling respectively.
Rajasthan Education Minister Bhanwar Lal Meghwal informed about the progress made towards implementing the Right to Education Act which came into force on April one.
Sibal asked both the ministers to put in place the requirements mandated by the Act, especially with regard to closing the gap in teacher requirement and training.
They were also asked to assess infrastructural gaps in existing schools, undertake mapping for establishment of neighbourhood schools and also establish School Management Committees in their respective states. They were also asked to take steps for notifying RTE Rules.
