Chennai: M Karunanidhi ordered free bus pass to the students of Government and Government aided Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) on the lines of free bus passes to school and college students.
The Chief Minister's announcement comes in the wake of government's announcement made on the floor of the Assembly on July seven, 2009 during the reply to the demand for grants for Labour and Employment, an official release here said.
This would benefit 21,500 students, studying in Government and Government aided ITIs in the state and this would entail an expenditure of Rs 3.84 crores to the Government, an official release here said.
The DMK government launched the free bus pass scheme in 1990, giving free bus passes to students studying upto eighth standard in Government schools. This was later extended to students, studying upto plus-two and then to students of Government and aided Colleges and Polytechnics.
