Applications invited for CSIR-UGC test

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has invited applications for the Joint CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) to be held on June 20 for determining the eligibility for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and for for appointment of lecturers in science subjects.

A candidate may apply either for JRF and lectureship or for lectureship only. Two separate merit lists will be prepared for JRF and for lectureship.

The NET (JRF) qualifying candidates are eligible to receive scholarships or fellowships for their research studies leading to Ph.D.

The test will be held in the following subjects: Chemical sciences, Earth, atmospheric ocean and planetary sciences, Life sciences, Mathematical sciences and Physical sciences.

Those who have passed M.Sc. degree in these subjects with at least 55 per cent marks are eligible to apply for the test.

Those who are appearing for their final year M.Sc. examinations can also apply for the test under ‘result awaited' category. The upper age limit for the JRF (NET) is 28 years as on January 1, 2010. There is no upper age limit for lectureship examination.

The test will be held in two sessions — paper I on June 20 from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. (150 minutes, 200 marks) and paper II on the same day from 2 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. (150 minutes, 200 marks).

Negative marking will be made for wrong answers in paper I, and paper II will be evaluated only for those who secure minimum marks prescribed for paper I.

Candidates are required to appear in both papers. Subject wise syllabus for the test is given in the information bulletin which will be available along with application from or this may be collected from the website www.csirhrdg.res.in.

The test will be held at 25 centres across the country which will include Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Karaikudi, Nagpur, Pune, Delhi and Kolkata.

How to apply

Application form and information bulletin can be obtained from select branches of Indian Bank on payment of Rs.400 (for general category), Rs.200 (for OBC-non creamy layer), Rs.100 (for SC/ ST).

The application form and information bulletin may also be obtained through Value Payable Post (VPP) from the Indian Bank, 3 /1 , West Patel Nagar, New Delhi - 110008, by sending a requisition letter along with a demand draft drawn in favour of Indian Bank, West Patel Nagar, New Delhi, payable at New Delhi, and two self-addressed slips so as to reach the addressee on or before March 10.

The candidates should write their name, date of birth, address, date of examination ie 20 {+t} {+h} June 2010 and subject code on the back side of the demand draft.

Online application facilities are also provided through the website www.csirhrdg.res.in.

The completed applications with enclosures should be sent under certificate of posting to the Sr. Controller of Examinations, Examination Unit, Human Resource Development Group, CSIR Complex, Library Avenue, Pusa, New Delhi - 110012 so as to reach the addressee on or before March 23.
